This comprehensive project required three structures to each have their proper place on the site, without jostling one another: a nursing home for the elderly (still to come), a senior citizens residential home and a chapel. Terracotta was soon established as the obvious choice for the residential home. This decision was motivated by a strong ambition: to ensure the new project is a good fit with the colour and materiality of the existing brick-clad buildings, constructed in the 1950s. A link, continuity and coherence that in no way exclude modernity! Quite the opposite. Thanks to ultra-contemporary cladding, both in terms of its dimensions and implementation, the building reveals a bold graphic world of clean, simple, elongated lines.
A creative expression that is supported by red Piterak® XS rainscreen cladding, which the architects customised in close collaboration with Terreal: two grooves were added to the standard model, giving an even more marked impression of horizontality. This striking, regular ribbing creates shadow on the façade, helping to lighten the look of the entire building. An endless elongation effect, reinforced by a rhythmical, repeated architectural composition. A wonderful achievement that is imposingly impressive without being an imposition!
