Description

The dreamy and traditional nature of the countryside of Emilia-Romagna in Italy inspired the architectural choices for a fine residence on the outskirts of an urban area in the foothills. The architects were looking for durable materials, respecting the tradition and the landscape where the project was carried out. They opted for hand-moulded terracotta cladding.

A villa in the heart of nature

We looked carefully at the resistance quality of the bricks when we were choosing the material to use on the sides of the villa. The product we chose combines aesthetic quality with real durability and resistance, as well as requiring minimum maintenance. The question of the low maintenance costs arising during the product’s lifespan was a key element guiding our design choices in line with the requirements of the clients, who are more and more concerned about reducing long-term costs.

The project architect explains:
“We chose facing bricks for the project because we see it as an appropriate material for a contemporary architecture that takes traditions into account and, above all, the rural tradition of the area where the villa was built. The main theme of the project was its relation with the agricultural land through traditional and durable materials. Terracotta facing brick is a highly expressive material that can improve an architectural composition with simple volumes and wide openings. It can also be adapted to blend in with the rural context, while keeping a contemporary look.”
