We wanted the architecture to be fun to fit in with the realm of early childhood and to integrate perfectly with the landscape.” In order to fulfill these two strong ambitions, Rosen Bogdan, architect with the Nomade Architectes agency, had the fantastic idea of conceptualizing “six small houses with wooden frameworks which are interlocking with each other through overlapping.” A unique concept which is reminiscent of the building block games of our childhood; creation of astonishing constructions through simple interlocking!
Reinforcing this impression, the architect chose to combine three models of plain tiles in three colours. A harmonious cladding solution covering the roofs and dropping down onto the façade to envelope the buildings in a manner akin to a carapace. “Having taken on board the desired trends of the architect, we offered him two custom mixes”, recalls François Pondaven, Roof Sales Representative.
Final selection? The Pommard “Sablé Champagne” version as dominant colour, the Éminence Auteuil” colour with a dominant brown and the Prieuré “Cendré”, a thicker model tile with an aged surface finish. No less than 117,800 of these subtly combined tiles were used to clad 1900 m² as roof cladding and rainscreen cladding. “It is a new demonstration of Terreal’s ability to inspire architects thanks to the infinite number of permutations provided by its wide range of product solutions!” a delighted François Pondaven explains. Furthermore, on 2 March last year, the unparalleled project secured the Archi Design Club Awards prize for 2017 in the “early childhood education” category. Well done!
