This parking structure will include spaces for 1,300 vehicles and will include the use of a terra cotta exterior skin with two elevator towers at opposing corners. A pedestrian walkway bridge will connect the new structure to an existing campus parking structure.

Indiana University Sports District Parking Garage
For the realization of a second parking at the sports area of Indianapolis university complex, TERREAL was chosen by Ratio Architects, for the implementation of its rainscreen cladding Piterak Slim and its sunscreen Zonda XL. Symbol of the starting point of a future green campus, it required the development by TERREAL of two customs through colours: a green and a blue. They have been mixed with the Storm Grey and Slate Grey from the standard range.

The word of
Ratio Architects, Architect
InterviewJeff Milliken, architect designer of the project said:
“In that project Terra Cotta was used as the primary rainscreen cladding and included baguettes as horizontal sunshade louvers. For the IUPUI garage we turned the louvers on end and stacked them, in a way to echo the previous wood slat garages but with a fresh new aesthetic.”
The colour is a key element in the project and needed a long reflexion process.
“We started by considering both a warm red orange scheme and a cool blue green scheme. It was decided that the cool scheme complemented the adjacent limestone buildings and fit the overall design direction for that part of the campus. We then considered different percentages of each colour in the blend until we reached the right balance and recorded the specific location of each colour in the construction documents. There is another subtly to the orientation of the louvers, each is slightly turned in a progressive pattern so that you get this movement across the façade. It is the combination of the multiple colours and also the play of shade and shadow that work together to create an interesting design on each facade throughout the day.”
