The renovation of the City of Paris’ warehouses and general stores by the architects Chaix & Morel following a competition, suggests the bringing together of two historical methods of applying terracotta : the use of brick as an industrial material in the 19th century, and its contemporary mutations. The terracotta architecture also integrates the role of glass and its treatment in large curtain façades, with the original use of brick colour for the joinery. Here, terracotta confirms its twin technical and aesthetic dimensions and demonstrate the possibilities of complementary combination with other materials.
